The Mula personality
With the Moon in Mula, tradition describes you as searching, direct and unwilling to settle for surface answers. You may want to know how things really work, why people believe what they believe, and what lies underneath. Astrologers link Mula with philosophy, investigation and a restless, radical streak. Life may bring sudden losses or uprootings that force you to start again, and you often come out of them clearer about what matters. The challenge is destruction for its own sake: pulling everything apart, rejecting what others value, or feeling unsettled wherever you are. When your digging serves understanding, Mula becomes a rare seeker of truth.
Mula in love and relationships
Astrologers describe you in love as honest, intense and uninterested in pretense. You want a relationship that is real at the roots, and you may test it by asking hard questions. Periods of upheaval can strain your bonds, and you may pull away when you feel restricted. A partner who values truth, can handle frank talk and gives you room to explore ideas and places helps you stay.
Work and career
Astrologers connect Mula with research, science, investigation, philosophy, medicine and herbalism, law, debate and any work that digs beneath the surface. Gardening and work with plants and roots also appear in traditional lists. You tend to do well in fields where questioning is valued and where you can follow a problem to its source.
Deity, symbol and ruler
Nirriti, the goddess of dissolution and decay, presides over Mula. The Vedic hymns ask her to keep misfortune away, and astrologers see her as the force that breaks down what has run its course so that new growth can begin. The roots tied together stand for foundations and for what is hidden underground. Ketu rules Mula in the Vimshottari system, adding detachment and a spiritual edge, and Jupiter rules Sagittarius. The start of Mula is a gandanta point, where water gives way to fire, and the direction of the galactic center lies within sidereal Mula.
The four padas of Mula
Mula’s padas fall in the Aries, Taurus, Gemini and Cancer navamsas. Astrologers describe the Aries pada, which begins at the gandanta junction, as the boldest and most forceful, the Taurus pada as the most grounded and concerned with resources, the Gemini pada as the most intellectual and questioning, and the Cancer pada as the most emotional and family-minded.
Each pada spans 3°20′ and corresponds to one navamsa, the ninth-part division Vedic astrologers use for the D9 chart. The last column shows how much of the Ketu dasha is left at birth if the Moon stands at the very start of each pada; it shrinks steadily as the Moon moves through Mula.
