How the soul urge number is calculated
Only the vowels in your full birth name are counted: A, E, I, O and U, plus Y when it sounds like a vowel. Each vowel takes its value from the Pythagorean chart, each part of the name is added up and reduced, and the parts are combined and reduced again, keeping master numbers.
For JOHN SMITH, the vowels are O (6) and I (9): 6 + 9 = 15, and 1 + 5 = 6.

Questions
Is Y a vowel in numerology?
Sometimes. Most numerologists count Y as a vowel when it makes a vowel sound, as in Lynn or Mary, and as a consonant when it sits next to another vowel, as in Yolanda or Maya. The automatic setting follows that rule; you can override it.
What is the difference between soul urge and heart’s desire?
None. Soul urge, heart’s desire and soul number are different names for the same vowel-based calculation.
