What the 10th house rules
This house covers your role in the world and how others see your achievements. Career direction, status, authority, bosses and the public image you build all belong here. The daily job belongs to the 6th; the 10th is vocation and the mark you want to leave. Traditional texts often gave the 10th to the mother and the 4th to the father, and many astrologers still read one parent here. Planets in the 10th are among the most visible in a chart, so they often show in what you do for a living. In Placidus and other quadrant systems its cusp is the Midheaven itself.
Natural sign and ruler
The 10th house matches Capricorn and its ruler Saturn in the natural zodiac. Capricorn’s patience, ambition and respect for structure suit a house about building something lasting in public. The sign on your own Midheaven describes the career image you grow into, and you can read it on the Midheaven sign pages.
An angular house
Angular houses (the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th) begin at the four angles of the chart: the Ascendant, the IC, the Descendant and the Midheaven. Astrologers read them as the strongest and most visible houses, where planets act openly. As an angular house, and the highest point of the chart, it is one of the most prominent places for any planet.
Planets in the 10th house
The Sun here is a classic sign of ambition and wanting recognition. Saturn in the 10th is often read as slow, steady success built on hard work. Jupiter suggests opportunities through reputation, Venus a pleasant public image or work in the arts. Mars brings drive and competitiveness in career, the Moon a public that changes with your moods, and Uranus unusual or changing career paths.

Your 10th house sign by rising sign
The sign on your 10th house cusp depends on your rising sign. In Whole Sign and Equal houses it is always the sign nine signs after your rising sign, as in this table. In Placidus and other quadrant systems it is often the same sign, but it can differ, especially for births far from the equator.
